Auburn Men’s Basketball made history

After a dominating season in the SEC and a run in the South Region final, Auburn Men’s Basketball made history, advancing to the semifinals after beating Michigan State!

Tournament round-up.

March is a month of basketball and tough competition. With four regions and 64 teams, Auburn Men’s Basketball entered the tournament ranked No. 1 for the South Region.

Facing Alabama State University first, the team rose to its first victory in Lexington, Kentucky. This was followed by a win against Creighton University, locking in the Tigers’ spot for the tournament in Atlanta.

And just like our trees, the Tigers kept it rolling in Atlanta with a sweet win against Michigan University. But it didn’t end there—this elite competition continued with the South Region final against Michigan State.

Auburn beats Michigan State.

With Michigan State taking an early two-point lead, Auburn quickly jumped back with a 17-0 run started with Miles Kelly’s back-to-back jumpers and Chaney Johnson’s jumper.

As the heavily Auburn crowd roared, Kelly hit a 3-pointer followed by a Tahaad Pettiford 3-pointer. All-American and SEC Player of the Year Johni Broome continued with a 3-pointer to give the Tigers a 23-8 lead.

Michigan State cut the lead with a 7-0 run, but with more points from Broome, Auburn led 33-24 at halftime.

After the half, and increasing the lead to 50-38, Broome went down, exiting for trainer evaluation. With the crowd chanting, Broome returned to the game and helped lead Auburn to a 70-64 win!

Auburn makes history for a second time.

With this victory, Auburn Men’s Basketball made history by advancing to the semifinals for only the second time in school history! The last time was in 2019 with key players Chuma Okeke, Jared Harper and Bryce Brown, also under the leadership of Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl, who was voted the NABC Division I Coach of the Year for the 2024-25 season. Johni Broome was awarded the NABC Pete Newell Big Man of the Year, a first for any Auburn head coach or player!

Unfortunately, the Tigers’ season came to an end when the West Region champions, the Florida Gators, defeated them in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday.

With every 3-pointer

Even as Auburn’s Men’s basketball made history, Berkshire Hathaway continues to support AUTLive’s OutShoot Cancer initiative by pledging $25 for every 3-pointer made this season. With 343 3-pointers this season, the donation is at $8,575.
