home maintenance schedule

Maintaining your property—inside and out—is proactive and preventative, saving you money in the long run. So, stay on top of upcoming tasks with this helpful home maintenance schedule.

Monthly home maintenance

Many home maintenance tasks are monthly, such as:

  • Change your HVAC and furnace filters, depending on the season.
  • Clear and check heating and air vents for dust and debris, including the dryer vent. Make sure it is venting to the outside properly.
  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and replace batteries as needed.
  • Inspect outlets and check electrical cords.
  • Clean sink, tub and shower drains.
  • Check low-traffic areas and clean them as needed, like flushing the toilet to clean sediment rings and turning on the sinks in guest bathrooms.
  • Clean your garbage disposal.
  • Check and replace the salt if you have a water softener system.

Quarterly home maintenance

Complete other home maintenance tasks quarterly, performing them every three months.

  • Check your water heater’s temperature and pressure valves.
  • Evaluate your garage door’s safety function and position the electric eyes correctly.
  • Remove and clean sediment out of shower heads and sink aerators.

  • Service your A/C unit.

Summer
