Auburn-Opelika 9-1-1 new multimedia platform

Have you heard the latest public safety update? Contacting officers, reporting a crime and more is easier with the Auburn-Opelika 9-1-1 new multimedia platform. Keep reading to learn more about how this system works.

About Prepared

The ability to text 9-1-1 is not a new feature in our area. In the past, the public could send “Texty” to contact the 9-1-1 dispatch. Evolving and making connecting with officers easier, both Auburn and Opelika have made the switch to “Prepared.”

According to Charlise Little with Auburn Public Safety, this new platform has features that were not available to citizens before. This includes the ability to send photos, videos and live stream.

Are you worried about access to your phone? Good news. The Auburn-Opelika 9-1-1 new multimedia platform is user-controlled, meaning only the user can permit what is shared.

Sergeant Robert Bugg with the Opelika Police Department reiterates that “as soon as they end permission, that’s it; it’s done. If they need to re-establish contact, a new link would have to be sent, and that permission would have to be provided a second or third time.”

More about Prepared

How does it work? All you have to do is text a message to 9-1-1, and dispatch will send you a link. Once you have clicked the link, you share photos, videos and live stream with the dispatcher.

Reports noted that the Prepared platform is a valuable resource to dispatchers and responding personnel. One of the main benefits is seeing or hearing what is happening at the scene in more detail. This allows the dispatchers to share a more in-depth description with emergency personnel.

What’s more? The application also helps with language barriers through a conversation translator, making communication with non-native English-speaking residents easier.

Summary

So, next time you need to report something but aren’t sure where to start, use the Auburn-Opelika 9-1-1 new multimedia platform, Prepared.
