Everyone’s favorite tiger and 11-time national champion, Aubie the Tiger, has been honored with a statute on The Plains. From sporting and community events and beyond, Aubie is forever in bronze at Auburn University.
About Auburn University’s new Aubie the Tiger statue
When Aubie the Tiger clinched his 10th UCA Mascot National Championship in 2021, the university instantly began working on this project to dedicate a statue on campus to him.
During his tenure as the Student Government Association president, Jake Haston recognized Aubie and proposed the project to Auburn University President Christopher B. Roberts, Senior Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Bobby Woodard and the Board of Trustees. In April 2023, the project was approved.
Support for this project flowed in generously from the Aubie program members, who are dedicated to the legacy of Aubie and others. In fact, according to reports, generous donors fully funded the project.
Alison Caswell, a sculptor at Firebird Bronze Foundry in Oregon known for her mascot and animal representation, was able to capture Aubie’s spirit and bring the statue to life.
More about the new Aubie the Tiger statue
On Feb. 24th, Auburn University unveiled the new Aubie the Tiger statue outside the Harold D. Melton Student Center. Standing tall, this bronze statue models an Auburn jersey, holds the Auburn flag in hand and is sporting his signature number one pose.
This ceremony was hosted by Student Affairs and Dr. Woodard, who welcomed many respected Auburn speakers to honor this iconic mascot. Who, for many, is not just a mascot but the true symbol of the Auburn spirit, unity and tradition.
What’s more? Aubie is forever in bronze at Auburn University due to his impact, ability to build connections, create lifelong friendships and more. And the timing couldn’t have been better, as Aubie won his 11th UCA National Championship this year and celebrated his 45th birthday on Feb. 28th.
