Auburn launched AUTeach program

Love science and math? Thinking of majoring in STEM but want more career options? You are in luck! Recent celebrations were held on campus as Auburn launched the AUTeach program, a partnership between Auburn University’s College of Education and College of Sciences and Mathematics.

About the AUTeach program

The news that Auburn launched the AUTeach program is the beginning of an exciting initiative that should help solve a big problem in the classroom. Through AUTeach, COSAM students can choose to earn a double major in secondary science education.

In the end, students enrolled in AUTeach will be licensed science teachers in Alabama. The program gives COSAM science students the chance to explore a different career path and learn new skills while being actively involved in the world of science.

Auburn students enrolled in the program will receive hands-on learning experiences in classroom teaching. AUTeach combines the science disciplines with the art of teaching. However, participating in the program in no way obligates a science major to become a teacher.

It does, on the other hand, prepare them to do so through internships, classroom experiences and earning their teaching certification.  What’s more, upon graduation, students will have earned a double major in science and education.

More about the AUTeach program

According to reports, Auburn is one of six universities in Alabama to receive funding for the UTeach program, which was established in 1997 at the University of Texas at Austin. Auburn launched the AUTeach program this semester, with 16 students currently enrolled.

Other universities participating in the program in the state include Auburn University at Montgomery, Alabama A&M University, University of South Alabama, University of West Alabama and Athens State University.
