You may have noticed a sign in a large lot just off Veterans Parkway and Birmingham Highway 280 announcing a Publix in Opelika is on the way! This will be the city’s first Publix Supermarket.
About Publix in Opelika
According to reports, a new retail shopping center will soon be under construction on the 12.6-acre site. The space will include anywhere from 12 to 16 businesses, with the Publix store as the anchor.
Publix, which hopes to open in 2025, is the first confirmed business coming to the 65,000-square-foot development.
The grocery store will be built on a lot that is near the Veterans Parkway and Highway 280 West intersection.
More specifically, Publix in Opelika will be convenient to neighborhoods such as The Springs of Mill Lake to the east and Alta Vista off Oak Bowery Road to the northeast.
In fact, The Springs of Mill Lake will be about a mile from the new Publix, making the store about a two-minute drive away! Alta Vista, on the other hand, will be about three miles from the future grocery store, which is still only about a five-minute drive away.
Besides being near Oak Bowery Road, the location will also have quick access to Waverly Parkway and Grand National Parkway, giving residents in those areas, including National Village, more options for local groceries.
What’s more, if you continue on Veterans Parkway to the south, it connects to Pepperell Parkway in Opelika, near Mandarin House.
Other Publix locations
There will soon be a total of four Publix locations in town.
First, there was the Publix located in Hamilton Place just off Moore’s Mill Road in Auburn, which opened in 2010. Next, a Publix opened in The Shoppes at Cary Creek off East University Drive in 2012.
More recently, a third Publix opened in downtown Auburn in the Shops on Gay Street in the fall of 2022. Now, we’ll keep an eye out on the development and construction of the Publix in Opelika. So, stay tuned for more news and future updates.
