Community Archery Park
Local residents are getting excited about the upcoming opening of the new archery park in Opelika.
Final approval to begin construction on the Opelika Community Archery Park was given by the Opelika City Council in December 2021.
The city was awarded a $72,000 grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. These funds, plus additional funds committed by Opelika, made the much-requested facility a reality.
The 50-yard park is situated on three-acres within Spring Villa Park. It features a shooting house with a 120-foot range with targets at 20, 40 and 60 yards. There is also a 15-by-15-foot raised platform that will help with practicing your shooting from a tree stand, for instance.
More about the project
The Community Archery Park in Opelika will be operated by the Opelika Parks and Recreation Department. It was made possible through a partnership with the City of Opelika, the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Archery Trade Association.
Visitors will need a valid hunting, fishing or wildlife heritage license. The park is free and open to the public from sunrise to sunset seven days a week.
Guests will also need to bring their own bow and arrows.
Location
The new archery park in Opelika can be found at Spring Villa Park, located at 1474 Lee Road 148. Not only can park visitors enjoy the new archery park, they can also explore the 350-acre Spring Villa Park.
Other park features include the Penn Yonge House, walking trails, an outdoor volleyball court, a horseshoe pit, grills and picnic areas, open green spaces and more.
