A new Cajun-themed sports bistro is making its way to Opelika, just off Interstate 85 in Tiger Town! Read on to learn more about the upcoming Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux in Opelika.
About Walk-On’s
The new Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux in Opelika will be one among many locations across the South and Southeast. The story of the Louisiana-based franchise starts in 1997 with founders Brandon Landry and Jack Warner, who were a pair of walk-ons on the Louisiana State University basketball team. From their love of basketball to their appreciation for good restaurants, the two bonded and realized a need for a sports bar in Baton Rouge. In 2003 that idea came to fruition when they opened the first Walk-On’s near LSU’s Tiger Stadium.
From a sketch on the back of a napkin to being named ESPN’s #1 Sports Bar in America in 2012, the Cajun sports bar concept grew and expanded. In fact, in 2015, NFL All-Pro Quarterback Drew Brees joined the fun as co-owner of Walk-On’s.
Various awards and successes later, the restaurant is preparing to bring its mouthwatering Louisiana cuisine right here to Opelika!
The menu
When the Walk On’s Sports Bistreaux in Opelika comes to town, locals will have a new spot to enjoy fresh, made-from-scratch seafood, burgers, po’boys and Cajun favorites. The menu varies by location, but you can check out the Montgomery menu here.
Start with options like Boudin Balls, hand-battered alligator, or the Cajun Queseaux. Continue the Cajun theme with Bistreaux Specialities like the Cajundillas or Pasta Alfreadeaux. Fresh seafood options include Voodoo Shrimp & Grits, Bayou Pasta and Mardi Gras Mahi. Or, opt for a po’boy, hand-pattied burger, wrap or tacos.
Get your fill of Cajun favorites like red beans, crawfish etouffee, duck and andouille gumbo, or sides like Louisiana street corn, hush puppies or corn grits. This is really just scratching the surface of Walk-On’s extensive menu!
The location
If you’ve seen an area of land cleared off Gateway Drive in front of the AMC Classic Tiger 13 movie theatre in Tiger Town, you might have been wondering who the new resident will be. Cue the new Walk-On’s! It will be located next to the Eagle gas station, across from where a new QT gas station is currently being constructed.
According to reports, the City of Opelika has issued a building permit for the new restaurant, but not much information beyond that has been released in terms of the timeline. In addition to Montgomery, other Alabama Walk-On’s locations include Birmingham, Mobile and Tuscaloosa if you want to check themout in the meantime.
