What was once home to a popular downtown bar and live music venue will soon be singing a different tune. A new mixed-used development across from Toomer’s Corner is in the early stages of development.

Out with old, in with new

One exciting aspect of the new mixed-used development across from Toomer’s Corner is it’ll breathe new life into a site that has been vacant for two years now.

Bourbon Street Bar was once a nightlife hot spot for Auburn University students, residents and visitors. However, the bar closed its doors for good in the summer of 2020 during the pandemic.

Now, according to reports, a new kind of scene will be built to thrive in Auburn’s evolving downtown area.

Plans for the new mixed-used development across from Toomer’s Corner include a restaurant, a bar and luxury condos.

In fact, the 75-foot building will essentially replace the current structure without touching two outer walls.

To clarify, Bourbon Street Bar shared a wall with neighbor Whataburger on one side and what was once Steel City Pops on the other. Those two walls will remain untouched as the new mixed-used development will be built within those established boundaries.

More about the development

Initial plans highlight unique features and a design that embraces plenty of windows and balconies.

For instance, the first floor will house a fine dining restaurant with outdoor seating available facing College Street. The second floor will feature the bar that will also have outdoor balcony seating.

The three upper floors are reserved for five luxury condos as of now. A rooftop terrace will top it all off with amazing views of downtown and campus! Plans include metal panels and windows on the north and south with balconies on the east and west.

Currently, the development is in the beginning stages of the permitting process. They hope to begin the buildout in the next few months so the entire project could be finished within a year.

Location

The new mixed-used development across from Toomer’s Corner will officially be located at 103 North College Street.
