using keyless entry on your home

In today’s modern world, options abound! One that is gaining in popularity in the world of homeowners is using keyless entry on your home. Let’s explore a few of the pros and cons of this tech-savvy option.

Pro: Lose the keys!

Do you misplace your keys more than you want to admit? Finally, it’s okay! When you go keyless, you won’t need a physical key.

Whether you choose a smartphone, keypad or fingerprint model, no keys are needed!

Con: You forgot the code!

Changing the code often and making it hard to guess is recommended when it comes to using keyless entry on your home. Hence, you may occasionally forget the code yourself—not to mention the fact that changing it often might get annoying.

Pro: Keyless entry is good for mobility issues.

When your hands are full of groceries, backpacks, kids or whatever, using keyless entry on your home will seem like a brilliant idea.

Hands-free options using voice commands also come in handy for younger people or for someone with an injury who can’t turn a key, for example.

Con: No power, no entry.

Here’s a con that literally requires back-up. When the power is out or your connection is interrupted, you may not be able to unlock your door.

Some keypads and other models do have battery backups, but they tend to have a short life.

Hence, having a spare key and a good old-fashioned lock on a door somewhere around the house is still a good idea.

Pro: Sharing with others is easy.

Forget the days of making extra copies of keys for babysitters, trusted neighbors, family, friends and so on! When you have a keypad, you can share the code with whoever you want.

If it’s operated by smartphone, you can open the door remotely for the expected dog walker or babysitter.

Con: They can be expensive.

A good old-fashioned deadbolt and key costs anywhere from $20 to $50 whereas keyless locks are in the $150 to $200 price range. Plus, there is typically the cost of installation as well.
