The New Opelika Public Library

Did you know that Americans read an average of 12 books or fewer per year? The figure comes from a study gathered by Pew Research. Whether you’re above the curve or you want to bulk up your number, we have good news! You have countless options to choose at the new Opelika Public Library, located where Glenn St. meets W. Johnson Ave.

About the library

Many local residents have fond memories at the Lewis Cooper Jr. Memorial Library. From learning how to read, to taking their children to pick out new books, to finding stories of their own, folks have frequented the library for more than 40 years.

Still, it was time for an update! After all, the old library first opened its doors in 1976. Now, it’s found a brand-new home.

Following an October 2nd ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening celebration, it’s officially open for readers. So, come visit the recently-opened building for an updated home for all our classic favorites.

Updates

The new Opelika Public Library brings the community new amenities to the impressive tune of $12 million dollars. Features include:

  • An auditorium capable of hosting 250 people;
  • Two extra group study rooms;
  • More in-library Chromebook circulation;
  • A family computer lab;
  • More individual study rooms;
