The Auburn City Schools’ Board of Education shared good news for the residents in the expanding northern part of the city! Construction for a new elementary school on Farmville Road in Auburn is set to begin this summer.
What to Know Now
The board approved the almost $8 million bid by Baggette Construction, Inc. of Decatur, AL, at the March meeting. According to a recent article in the Opelika-Auburn News, the 72,000-square-foot property is located near the intersection Farmville Road and North Donahue Drive.
The school will accommodate 600 students. It will alleviate capacity levels at the existing nine elementary schools. The plans also take projected growth into consideration.
The new elementary school on Farmville Road in Auburn is part of Auburn City Schools’ 2028 Master Plan. The plan was originally approved in May 2018 and proposed a system-wide restructure, renovation and more.
The land will be cleared this summer, and the initial stages of construction will get underway. Superintendent Dr. Cristen Herring said the school will be finished by May 2022. This means students will start the 2022-2023 year in the new school!
