It may be hard to imagine, but life on the Plains just got a little sweeter thanks to one new business in downtown Auburn! Mo’Bay Beignet Co. Auburn opened its café doors bright and early last Friday, March 5th. Today, customers are happily speckled in powdered sugar as they enjoy fluffy, homemade beignets!
Mo’ about Mo’Bay Beignet
A recent article in the Opelika-Auburn News shared a little background about the café. Mo’Bay Beignet Co. started in Mobile, AL, as a beloved family recipe with a little something extra. Owner Jaclyn Robinson decided to share her family’s favorite treat with others by opening a store in downtown Mobile at 451 Dauphin St.
In fact, the location just celebrated its one-year anniversary on February 6th. Now, it’s expanded its reach to Auburn with a second location. Mo’Bay Beignet Co. Auburn is located right next door to the Pita Pit at 155 College St.
The store’s opening couldn’t be timed better! With the arrival of spring right around the corner, the outside seating is sure to be a sweet spot.
What’s on the menu?
Obviously, the star of the show is the handmade, hand-rolled, and deep-fried delicate puff pastry known as a beignet. These are topped with the traditional powdered sugar—and that little something extra. Mo’Bay Beignet Co. Auburn is mo’better thanks to another family secret.
Take your pick of either homemade buttercream or cinnamon syrup! Not only is the syrup delicious on the beignets, but it also makes a perfect topping for ice cream, biscuits, waffles and pancakes. Customers can enjoy the sweetness in-store plus purchase some for home. Jars of syrup and the original mix can be bought individually or as a gift set.
Of course, what’s a beignet without a café au lait? For a full look at the menu and more on what to expect, click here. One thing worth noting is Mo’Bay Beignets are made fresh to order. That means when there’s a crowd, expect a wait—but trust that it will be worth it!
