New Business Spotlight: Blade and Barrel

Blade and Barrel

There is a new kid on the block on Main Street in Midtown Auburn. Axe-throwing venture Blade and Barrel plans to hit the bullseye with their opening date sometime in March.

Blade & Barrel Axe Co.

Co-owners Craig and Katie Miller are avid fans of axe throwing along with good friends and co-workers Lane and Ashley Minor. The four friends felt the Auburn area needed more entertainment options.

Thus, Blade and Barrel was born. The family-friendly venue will be open to guests ages 8 and older. The spacious location was designed with nine lanes. Rent lanes by the hour with a group of up to eight. Then throw the axe as many times as you can!

What to Expect

In a recent article on oanow.com, Craig said what you shouldn’t expect is the same old axe-throwing experience. Blade and Barrel aims to please through a variety of fun, competitive games. Think “bowling or an arcade with axes.” In other words, they will offer games with points, rules and clear objectives.

Another business twist is this will be a BYOB venue. You bring your favorite cold beverage. Next, rent a cooler full of ice to keep things convenient and easy.

There are a few other aspects that set Blade and Barrel apart. First, the projected targets aren’t painted, and there are multiple games. Second, the targets are made of end grain. This means they are longer lasting, and axes stick easier. Finally, Blade and Barrel has prioritized safe lane design.

What To Wear

Wondering what to wear? Be comfortable. Throwing axes is fast-paced and physical. Closed toed shoes are a must!  Being able to move is a must. Consider practicing an overhand throw in your outfit of choice before you go.

Location

Blade and Barrel is located at 900 Main St. in Auburn. If you aren’t familiar with Midtown Auburn yet, it’s just off Opelika Road across from Niffer’s Place. Click here to like the Blade and Barrel Facebook page and stay up-to-date with the latest news.
