The past year has resulted in struggles for children and parents alike. One of the big problems? Finding a place to safely unwind! Fortunately, it looks like a brighter future waits on the horizon. This month, our town will break ground on a new inclusive playground at Town Creek Park.
More on the New Playground
Spending time outside is an important part of a child’s development. Sadly, not every kid can find a place built with his or her needs in mind. The new inclusive playground at Town Creek Park seeks to make the great outdoors more accessible. Their method of choice? Building a whole ADA-compliant spot for everyone to enjoy!
Improving Accessibility
Every child has different needs—and it can cause genuine distress when those needs aren’t met. Creating an ADA-accessible playground like this one can help bridge the gap. It will also mean that all children can take in a day of fun!
The new playground plans to create a variety of pod area to address accessibility requirements. For a few examples, those pods will be designed for children with hearing or vision impairments, children with physical disabilities, and children with autism. So, more kids in Auburn will find a spot tailored to them!
Making Progress
Earlier in January, the Auburn City Council gave plans for the new play area a green light. They plan to spend approximately $1.9 million on equipment and $2 million on construction. This month, Auburn Parks and Recreation, Miracle Recreation Equipment Co., and D&J Enterprises will officially get to work on the new playground.
What will the playground feature?
You’ve heard of the pods! However, that’s not all this playground plans to offer. It will also feature installations like:
- Ramps;
- A bouldering wall;
- Wheelchair-accessible swings;
- An observation area;
- Exercise areas for adults;
- A trail;
- And more.
Where will the playground be located?
The playground will join Town Creek Park in Auburn, AL. You can visit it at 1150 S. Gay St..
Summary
We all remember the great times we had making friends outside! Now, a new generation of kids will have a spot made just for them. In the future, they can make great memories of their own at the new inclusive playground at Town Creek Park. Now that’s not a bad way to start off the new year at all!
