The city of Opelika is blooming excited to announce the growth of the community continues. City officials and company representatives recently broke ground for the new Bonnie Plants headquarters in Opelika.

Making a Move

Bonnie Plants is currently located in Union Springs, Alabama. This is where the company was founded more than 100 years ago by Bonnie and Livingston Paulk. According to an article recently published in the Opelika-Auburn News, the decision to make a move to Opelika stems from strong partnerships and community support from city officials. The Bonnie Plants headquarters in Opelika will bring about 60 jobs to the area. The company is also partnering with Auburn University’s Harbert College of Business and College of Agriculture.

Bonnie Plants is funding scholarships for each college and plans on supporting the University’s Center for Supply Chain Innovation. This will help continue the top-ranked program’s cutting-edge research and process of discovery.

A Little History

The Bonnie Plants website, shares the inspiring story of the plant farm as well as all-things gardening—and even recipes featuring vegetables and herbs grown in the greenhouses.  What started with $50, a little land in Livingston’s hometown of Union Springs, and two pounds of cabbage seeds has grown to almost 300 plant varieties—specializing in vegetables and herbs (including organics)—and more than 70 growing stations across the US. This is essential to providing fresh and healthy plants to all 50 states and even Canada.
