updates to the AU Quad residence halls

Auburn University’s historic campus is an iconic part of what makes our town a great place to live, work and play. Along with historic buildings at times comes the need for some modern upgrades. That’s what upcoming updates to the AU Quad Residence Halls will provide, in an effort to preserve historic charm while making the spaces functional for today’s university students.

The AU Quad Residence Halls

Housing approximately 1,000 undergraduate students, the AU Quad Residence Halls are a slice of history in the center of Auburn University’s campus. With four of the Quad’s 10 residence halls built in 1938 (The Upper Quad) and the other six built in 1952 (The Lower Quad), the dormitory-style buildings have not been renovated since the 1990s.

Most of the Quad rooms are configured for double occupancy, with a selection of single rooms available. The majority of the Quad dorms are co-ed, with two (Keller and Owen) designated for female students.

What will the upgrades entail?

In July, the Auburn University Board of Trustees voted to approve a $62 million renovation project that would focus on two buildings a year until the five-phase project is completed. The first phase is slated to begin in summer 2021 with Harper and Broun Halls.

Renovations to the historic buildings will include upgrades to interior finishes and furnishings, replacement of plumbing fixtures, and improvements to electrical and mechanical systems. The renovations would also address necessary structural changes to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
