It turns out that our population is rising! Why? Auburn is among Alabama’s fastest-growing cities, according to the U.S. Census Bureau and AL.com—and we can’t say we’re surprised.

The rankings compared all the cities in our state, seeing which reported the highest population growths. According to the data, Auburn in the ninth fastest-growing city in all of Alabama.

Auburn is among Alabama’s fastest growing cities, earning the number nine spot. So, what exactly does that mean—and how was the data gathered?
Each of the cities in our state have populations recorded in the U.S. Census. To determine population growth over time, AL.com compared the 2010 Census to the 2019 Census, seeing which towns showed an increase in residents.
Then, they used those numbers to calculate the exact percentage of growth. In Auburn’s case, an increase from 53,380 residents in 2010 to 66,259 residents in 2019 meant 12,879 more people now live in our town. It also showed that our population has risen by an impressive 24 percent.

Auburn has officially won the number nine spot in the whole state. We’re not the only town that’s welcoming new residents. Here are Alabama’s fastest-growing cities, starting with number one:
