Auburn's trash amnesty month 2020

Over the past few weeks, you’ve probably seen neighbors helping out neighbors. You may have even done a few good deeds yourself! One of the best parts of living in our community is seeing just how much people care about each other. Auburn takes care of its residents—and now, the city is making life a bit simpler us all: Auburn’s Trash Amnesty Month 2020. Learn more about it here—and don’t forget to take advantage of it from now through April 24!

What is Auburn’s Trash Amnesty Month?

Right now, one of the most important things we can do for our health is to live in a clean home. Sanitation workers have a vital job—one that protects us all—and those in the field are doing some more crucial steps to help everyone in town: they’re taking place in Auburn’s Trash Amnesty Month 2020.

So, what does that mean? Well, it means two things. First of all, you can get rid of bigger, bulkier items or land waste—up to five cubic yards of it, in fact—by taking it curbside outside your home. Second of all, you won’t be charged for it.

And yes, getting rid of these things can help you stay healthy! Land waste can attract bugs, mold, germs, and more—all things that can prevent us from feeling well.

What is included in Auburn’s Trash Amnesty Month 2020?

If you decide to participate in Auburn’s Trash Amnesty Month 2020, you’ll need to know a few things about it first. Eligible products and rules for the program include:

  • Keep debris and trash three feet or more away from items fixed in the ground, such as poles;
  • Debris must be at your pick-up site by 6 a.m. on trash day;
  • No hazardous waste;
  • Household garbage is not eligible;
  • Ensure that everything is stored in a container or tied together so that sanitation workers can quickly and safely collect it all;
  • Metal and wood must be stored apart from each other—and distinctly so; and
  • Items cannot be longer than five feet.

Some Trash Routes May Have Changed

Pickup routes for some Auburn residents changed as of yesterday, April 6, 2020. The change impacts about 4,000 residential customers. Affected customers should have received a door hanger and letter from Auburn Environmental Services. Check to see if your route has been affected.

Summary

This month, you can still stay healthy—and tackle spring cleaning too—with the help of Auburn’s Trash Amnesty Month 2020. You still have a bit of time to make good use of it too, since it ends April 24. We’re lucky to live in a town filled with such caring residents—so please ensure that you listen to all the rules and regulations to make this program run smoothly and safely.

Additionally, if you see your local sanitation workers, don’t forget to tell them a thank you—and just make sure you’re at least six feet away from them!
