Skateboarders of all stripes are kicking it at the curbs. The new skate park in Auburn and Opelika allows lovers of the grind to skate and ride in our community. A joint effort between the two cities, the recent development has skaters flocking to the concrete concourse.
A Place to Skate
Before the new skate park in Auburn and Opelika opened, many skaters coasted the curbs of Columbus, Georgia. Auburn and Opelika’s collaborative venture gives skaters a venue much closer to home. It shares ground with the Indian Pines Golf Course.
Auburn and Opelika poured $200,000 in funds each toward the project’s completion. Support for the skate park was fueled by a demand for more community recreational outlets. The new skate park in Auburn and Opelika aligned with the master plan for Auburn Parks, Recreation, and Culture.
Public input influenced the project. Two companies vied for the park’s ultimate layout, putting forth designs to the community. Residents, with more than 1,000 votes cast, opted for American Ramp Company’s pitch. A slim margin, only four votes in total, decided the outcome. It’s likely that Auburn and Opelika’s cooperation landed them a greater park than either could have produced on their own.
Appealing to veterans and beginners, the new skate park in Auburn and Opelika caters to skateboarders of all skill levels. Bowl walls are said to be low enough for beginners to try out—and enjoyable enough for seasoned skaters to show off their flips and tricks.
