Alabama's Opportunity Zones

Previously on this blog, we talked about the new state Opportunity Zone under construction in Opelika. Opportunity Zones are places funded by the Congress in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. Not only do they build up private sector business in smaller parts of the country, but they also add jobs in the area and increase spending in the local economy. Local residents will be happy to know that Forbes has named Alabama as a state leader in OZ implementation! That means wonders for residents all across the state. Let’s learn more about Alabama’s Opportunity Zones.

How did Forbes determine its state leaders?

Towns all across the country are home to Opportunity Zones. Both a board of advisors and experts scored opportunity zones all over the U.S.A. The results? Alabama’s Opportunity Zones—all 158 of them—are among the most promising because of the association’s impact as a community-led program.

How do Opportunity Zones help our community?

Alabama’s Opportunity Zones help out our community from the outset. Not only do they draw from local companies and employees to build the area, but they will bring new jobs once the Opportunity Zones are constructed. That means years and years of employment and economic activity.

Are there any Opportunity Zones in the area?

As a matter of fact, there’s one on the way to Opelika! It’s a business park, which will add a whole lot of value to our community.  Located by the Auburn Airport, it’s under construction, but the first part will be finished this year.

Conclusion

Around here, the cost of living is fairly low and you can find a wonderful home for the perfect price. The fact that Alabama is the state leader in Opportunity Zones is just the cherry on top.
