There’s a golden opportunity approaching for local business owners. Though it’s still under construction, soon a new Opelika business park will open in a state “Opportunity Zone.” Here’s just how that will impact our town—and the people who live here!
What is a state Opportunity Zone?
Wondering what a state Opportunity Zone is? Essentially, it’s a way that our country gives back to local communities all across the United States. Opportunity Zones use money allocated via Congress in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 to help build up private-sector investments in smaller parts of the country.
Where is the new Opelika business park being constructed?
You can find it near the Auburn Airport. That’s now the spot of a Lee County Opportunity Zone, making it an ideal place to build.
What will the new Opelika business park involve?
As it turns out, our booming economy helped designate the space for a local opportunity zone. The new Opelika business park, also known as Hi Pack Business Park, is an ambitious project—and it will have a huge impact on the city. It will feature 10 buildings of various sizes, with the biggest being about 45,000 square feet. These buildings can provide tenants with warehouses, showrooms, and other private-sector needs. That means more job opportunities for residents—and more business from across the country!
Though this 13-acre project is still in progress, you’ll be seeing results soon. In fact, the first finished part will be unveiled as early as 2020!
Summary
Fine dining, shopping, and awesome neighbors—Opelika is a wonderful place to spend your days. Now, our town is on-track to have even more job possibilities for residents. The new Opelika business park will offer space for private-sector jobs—and fast-growing careers—thanks in park to our local Opportunity Zone.
