It’s time to learn more about the practices that protect your community. At Auburn’s 2019 Citizens’ Public Safety Academy, you can find out about the daily procedures that officers follow while keeping Auburn living up to its nickname as the Loveliest Village on the Plains.
What Does the Course Include?
Public safety involves a variety of different—and important—procedures designed to protect the community. In this course, you’ll learn more about public safety in regard to topics like crime, K-9 dogs, and gun safety. Plus, attendees can find out about multiple areas of civic life, such as police and fire departments. Additionally, the course encourages active learning, allowing its students firsthand looks at mock crime scenes and more. At the end of the program, you can also look forward to a fun graduation night.
Restrictions and Rules
The class has limited space, so ensure that you sign up in time. For this iteration of the course, Auburn’s 2019 Citizens’ Public Safety Academy will teach a total of 25 students. The class takes nine different meetings to complete.
Don’t forget to check your calendar for availability! The course begins on March 21 and ends on April 25. While seven of the classes will take place on a Thursday, lasting from 6 to 8:30 p.m., the remaining two sessions will be on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. If you can’t attend each lesson, don’t worry—you can still earn a place in this class.
As for finding a place in the course, potential students from all over can apply. However, Auburn residents will have an advantage in the admissions process. Only people aged 18 or older may apply. Make sure to turn in your application form by March 14!
Opelika: A Companion to Auburn’s 2019 Citizens’ Public Safety Academy
Opelika has also benefited from a citizen-based safety program. During a 10 week-long period each year, Opelika holds a course of its own. It teaches on a new topic each week, ranging from fire arms training, to traffic, to patrol procedures. The course culminates in a graduation night, complete with a delicious catered dinner. After all, involvement in your community is something to celebrate!
