The hustle and bustle of the holidays has come and gone—and now it’s time to chill, literally! Auburn’s 7th Annual Polar Plunge, a wintry staple of the area, may be frigid, but it’s warm at heart. The event supports Lee County Special Olympics and the goal is to get as many of your friends and family to sponsor you as possible.
Here’s a breakdown of the who, what, when and where:
Who: You! You and your friends and family are invited to participate.
What: A plunge with a purpose, Auburn’s 7th Annual Polar Plunge aims to raise funds to support the athletes of the Lee County Special Olympics. You can register, gather support from friends and family, dress out, dive in, and watch your teeth chatter—for a worthy cause!
Where: Samford Pool, 328 E Samford Ave.
When: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Jan. 26
In addition to the frigid festivities, patrons are encouraged to bring costumes along (and of course plunge) since there will be prizes for the best costume(s) and for people who raise the most money. Individual and group costumes are highly encouraged; last year’s winners were a father-son team masquerading as Clark Griswold and Cousin Eddie from “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.” The event is hosted by Auburn Parks and Recreation and Lee County Special Olympics and proceeds will benefit Lee County Special Olympics.
In previous years, sponsors have been asked to donate a minimum of $20; however, contributions of all sizes are welcomed. The plunge has swelled in recent years, outgrowing its original 2013 locale of a backyard pool. Auburn’s 7th Annual Polar Plunge, contrary to its icy moniker, has warmed the hearts of many in the area. To learn more about the event, click here.
