At this time of year, you’re probably no stranger to wish lists. Even though it’s the night before Christmas, if you’re still on the lookout for a new home, you’re probably curating a whole host of house hopes. Whether you need an eye into the world of real estate or some thoughts about the kind of home to purchase in the future, these common home buying wish list items can help you prepare.

  • A fire pit. Now that it’s so chilly, you may find it harder to stay outside. Considering that this is the one time of year when you don’t have to worry about mosquitoes, that’s a huge disappointment. If you find a home featuring a fire pit, you can roast marshmallows with loved ones and enjoy a night out under the stars.
  • Hardwood floors. In the past few decades, carpets have become more and more passé. Sure, they’re soft, but they’re also far harder to maintain. With sticky spills and lingering smells, a carpet can detract value from your home. However, if you find a place with beautiful hardwood floors, that’s no longer an issue.
  • Ceiling fans. In the South, you can’t endure the summer without a series of fans in the house. Though many of us are used to plug-ins, they can be unwieldy and extraordinarily loud. However, if you install ceiling fans in your home before selling—or you find a new home just full of them—the hottest season of the year will become far more bearable. Plus, with all the unique designs that ceiling fans have, you can also use them as classic statement pieces and lighting displays throughout your home.
  • Shower chair. A shower chair can give independence to those who might not otherwise be able to stand to get clean. This feature is especially important if you’re considering buying a home with elderly relatives or you yourself intend to spend your golden years there.
  • Eat-at kitchen bar. For morning memories and extra gathering space, an eat-at kitchen bar will help you spend time with the people you care about. In fact, you have endless options with this feature. Other great uses include a study space, a spot to sit and drink coffee, and a place to spread out a buffet for a gathering.
  • Laundry rooms. Everyone who’s had to deal with communal laundry rooms knows just what a luxury it is to have your own washer and dryer. Though many of us are used them being housed in a small closet, you deserve an upgrade. As one of the most underrated common home buying wish list items, a laundry room can make a boring chore so much easier.

Santa may not be able to deliver a laundry room in his bag of goodies, but don’t worry—these common home buying wish list items can still be yours. To find a home with the features you want in the Auburn, Opelika, and Lake Martin area, contact Ryan Roberts through our form.
