Looking for some scary spooks this Halloween season? Halloween 2018 in Auburn and Opelika is slowly creeping up—and we don’t want you to miss out on all the frights. Whether you’d like to stroll through the Auburn haunts, curl up and watch some scary movies with your family and a bucket full of popcorn in the dark at the Arboretum, or attend a ghoulish gala specifically for fiends of fiction at the Auburn Public Library—Auburn and Opelika have plenty of Halloween goodies that will be sure to make your skin crawl and hair stick up straight. Ghoulish Gala at the Auburn Public Library, Oct. 25
- What: Calling all ghouls and goblins! Hop on down to the palooza specifically for haunts and hobgoblins. Dress to distress and show the library your spookiest costumes. This event will have activities for all ages, including crafts, dancing, a photo booth, and carnival games. Check out the wicked wing of the library if you’re feeling extra brave. Once you crash from all the candy, take on the perils of the “popping” dance floor!
- When: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
- Where: Auburn Public Library, 749 E. Thach Ave., Auburn
Halloween Enchanted Forest, Oct. 25 and 26
- What: Watch the forest come alive with Halloween spirit at the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center! Guided hikes will take participants through 10 stations, where costumed actors from the City of Auburn’s Junior Theater program will perform via song, dance, or poetry. Each actor will represent a different plant, animal or insect. Families are encouraged to wear costumes and enjoy pumpkin bowling, face painting and a campfire.
- When: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Where: Kreher Preserve and Nature Center, 2222 N. College St., Auburn

Fright Nights at the Arboretum, Oct. 26
- What: Bring a blanket, lawn chair and popcorn (or your favorite snack) and watch a seasonal movie under the stars at Fright Nights at the Donald E. Davis Arboretum. Catch this month’s final Fright Night tomorrow, Oct. 26. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown starts at 6:30 p.m., Alford Hitchcock’s The Birds starts at 7 p.m., and The Exorcist starts at 9:15 p.m. This event isn’t so eerie—it’s free and open to the public.
- When: Movies begin at 6:30 p.m.

Haunted Auburn Walking Tour, Oct. 26 and 27
- What Care to venture out into the dark Auburn night? Feeling extra brave? Join other thrill seekers in this annual creepy caravan that tours Auburn’s spookier sights. Stops include Pine Hill Cemetery, Samford Hall, and Auburn’s University Chapel on this tour of terror. Tours last approximately 45 minutes to one hour.
- When: Tours start at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
- Where: Meet at the Eagle Statues across from Toomer’s Corner
- Cost: Free
Bones and Boos, Oct. 27
- What: Get up close and personal with some spooky skeletons as the Davis Arboretum, The AU Museum of Natural History and the AU Vet School host a one-day outdoor exhibit of animal skeletons throughout the Arboretum. We’re talking rhino legs, whale ribs, tigers, bears—the list goes on! The event also includes a silent auction, live music, food trucks and more. Proceeds will benefit the hosting organizations.
- When: 12 to 4 p.m.
- Where: Donald E. Davis Arboretum, 181 Garden Drive, Auburn
- Cost: $5 per person; free for children 12 and younger
Fall Festival and Children’s Carnival, Oct. 30
- What: Inflatables, games, hayrides—oh my! This carnival designed for children 12 and younger encourages families to get dressed up and enjoy the fall season and Halloween holiday.
- When: 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
- Where: Opelika Sportsplex & Aquatics Center, 1001 Andrews Road, Opelika
- Cost: Free admission; $0.25 per activity or $10 for an all-access wristband
2018 Downtown Trick-Or-Treat, Oct. 31
- What: Check out the best Halloween party in town on All Hallows’ Eve in Downtown Auburn. As an alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating, costumed participants are invited to trick-or-treat with the downtown merchants. Enjoy music, a costume contest and more.
- When: 6 to 8 p.m.
- Where: Downtown Auburn
- Cost: Free
