2018 back-to-school sales tax holiday

Look at the time—school’s almost back in session! And with school comes the need for school supplies. Unfortunately, whether you’re buying regular folders, pencils, and paper or big-ticket technology, those things can add up, making them costly for students of all ages. However, there’s still some good news: towards the end of this month, these items are about to become a bit more affordable. On July 20-22, Alabama will be running the state’s 2018 back-to-school sales tax holiday. This event is the 13th annual incarnation of the sale, which is dedicated to making education more affordable for students and their families. Stores will sell academic-related wares without charging state sales taxes; however, please note that local taxes may still be applicable.

The 2018 back-to-school sales tax holiday will make supplies such as paper, binders, and writing utensils tax-exempt. As far as technology goes, computers, printers, and compact disks will also enjoy tax-free status. Finally, it will also make clothing items like school uniforms, sneakers, and sandals tax-exempt. It’s also important to note that items like cosmetics, handbags, band instruments, video games, and magazines are not free of state taxes.

Here’s the full list of which items are tax-exempt, which are not, and the details of the 2018 back-to-school sales tax holiday. Make sure you take advantage of this helpful opportunity! Plus, won’t it feel good to have all your shopping done for the upcoming semester? It will definitely help you enjoy the rest of your summer to know that your shopping is done—and at a bargain too.
