A vacation out of town can involve fun and relaxation, but it often comes with the stress of travel and dealing with unfamiliar places. Why not lounge at home, whether you’re by yourself or with family? The perfect summer staycation can provide rejuvenation and quality time with your family—or just yourself! Here’s how to make a staycation stress free:
Make and perform a to-do list of chores before your summer staycation. Don’t sour your staycation by thinking about tasks you should be doing—because you’ve already completed them! Scrub down the kitchen and bathroom(s), pick up the living room and bedrooms(s), wipe down the windows, vacuum the floor, and dust the furniture. You’ll feel accomplished with completing these chores, but you’ll also enter your staycation feeling like a fresh start!
You may have to deal with some chores during your vacation, like washing dishes, doing laundry, or throwing out the trash. Therefore, consider saving up some money before your staycation to hire a maintenance service to mimic a luxury hotel experience!
Prepare your home for relaxation. Cleaning ahead of time already helps create a relaxing environment in your home, but additional prep work can really make the difference. Stock up the pantry and refrigerator with food and snacks. Arrange a special place in the house to make your summer staycation extraordinary—like transforming the living room into a home theater, the bathroom into a personal spa, or a corner of your bedroom into a reading nook.
Don’t forget the outdoors! The perfect summer staycation doesn’t involve cooping yourself up in the house (unless that sounds like a great time for you). Get the grill ready for cooking, set up a pool for the kids, or assemble some tents for backyard camping!
Do some meal prep. Eliminate some of the day-to-day concerns like, “What should I eat for dinner?” by planning all your meals ahead—with some wiggle room, of course. Decide which days you want to order food service or eat out, create a meal plan for everything you want to cook during the staycation, and grocery shop in advance. Purchase some special snacks you don’t often eat for a little deserved indulgence!
Decide on some activities ahead of time. Unless you want your perfect summer staycation to involve doing nothing—though there’s nothing wrong with that!—consider making a list of things you and your family would want to do. This list can involve movie nights, board and card games, get-togethers by the pool, stargazing at night, and much more!
A little planning ahead can go a long way with creating a memorable staycation this summer with yourself or your family.
