What started as a celebration of traffic being rerouted around the town of Waverly has turned into one of the most well-attended and anticipated events in East Alabama each spring and fall—the annual Old 280 Boogie. Situated on the grounds of Standard Deluxe print shop in Waverly, Alabama, about a 10- to 15-minute drive from Auburn City limits, the 18th Annual Old 280 boogie promises to charm both newcomers and festival veterans this Saturday, April 21.
The Old 280 Boogie is an outdoor music and arts festival, sponsored this year by Goodwyn Mills & Cawood. Its locale is one of its most alluring qualities, as the quiet town of Waverly makes for a fitting backdrop for a southern spring afternoon outdoors. The festival itself started when Waverly residents celebrated in the streets back in 2001 when State Highway 280 bypassed the town, meaning that it was no longer a crowded thoroughfare for travelers. Now, the biannual event draws close to 1,500 attendees each fall and spring.
The Old 280 Boogie features a full schedule of musical artists throughout the day, from noon to 9 p.m. This year, look forward to performances by:
- Shinyribs
- Sekou
- Revel in Dimes
- Chris Stalcup & The Grange
- The Pine Hill Haints
- Marshall Ruffin
In addition, guests will have the opportunity to browse artisan and food vendors including:
- Michael Foster Tintypes Photos
- Andrew Cost-Mighty Fine Art
- Bandaged Designs
- Mama Mocha’s Coffee
- Dan Tomberlin Art
- Soul Light Stars
- Charlie’s Rocks and Minerals
