The weather has already turned warmer around Auburn and Opelika, and we’re just coming out of February! Spring is around the corner, which means it’s time to get excited for outdoor activities again. Auburn Area Community Theatre Presents “Animal Fables by Aesop,” March 1-3, 5, 8-10

  • What: The AACT Young Performers present Aesop’s “Animal Fables,” which showcase classic moral concepts like “slow and steady wins the race,” “practice makes perfect and others. This show will be presented in “theatre-in-the-round” and will feature popcorn, balloons and more!
  • Where: Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center, 222 E. Drake Ave., Auburn
  • When: 6:30 p.m. March 1,2,3,5,8,9; also at 2 p.m. March 2 and March 10

Kiwanis Azalea Sale, March 2-4

  • What: The Lee County Kiwanis Club hosts its 31st annual azalea sale just in time for spring.
  • Where: University Ace Hardware, 2101 University Drive, Auburn
  • When: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday

IDA-AL Dyslexia Dash of East Alabama, March 3

  • What: The annual Dyslexia Dash of East Alabama raises money to support students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. This event hosted by the Alabama branch of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA-AL) will feature a one-mile fun run and 5K race.
  • Where: Ogletree Village, 2290 Moores Mill Road, Suite 400, Auburn
  • When: 8 a.m. fun run; 8:30 a.m. 5K
  • Cost: $15 fun run pre-registration; $25 5K pre-registration, $30 each event day-of registration

Junior Adventure Challenge, March 3

  • What: Participants ages 4 to 12 are invited to conquer an obstacle course with features ranging from rock walls to lava flows! The challenge is followed by a celebration party with food, drinks and a DJ. This event is a fund raiser sponsored by the Junior League of Lee County to benefit the Food Bank of Easts Alabama.
  • Where: Kiesel Park, 520 Chadwick Lane, Auburn
  • When: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Fit As a Fiddle, March 3

  • What: Designed for people 50 and older, this health fair will give attendees the opportunity to visit with representatives from the medical field, fitness centers, senior communities, therapy programs, volunteer organizations and more. This event is free and open to the public!
  • Where: Dean Road Recreation Center, 307 S. Dean Road, Auburn
  • When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 

Auburn Chili Cook-Off, March 3

  • What: Chili lovers are welcome to attend the first-ever Auburn Chili Cook-Off benefitting Storybook Farm and presented by Max Credit Union. The all-ages event will include chili tasting, beer, food trucks, live music a bounce house and more.
  • Where: Ag Heritage Park (Red Barn), 620 N. Donahue Drive, Auburn
  • When: 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

East Alabama Arts Presents: National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, March 7

  • What: The National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba returns to the United States for the first time since its 2012 tour. The symphony features award-winning South Korean piano sensation, Yekwon Sunwoo.

Family Discovery Hikes: Geology, March 13

  • What: Families with children ages 5 to 12 are invited to learn more about Alabama’s geology by taking a guided hike through the Louise Kreher Forest Ecology Preserve. Groups should meet at the center’s pavilion for this free event!
  • Where: Kreher Preserve and Nature Center, 2222 N. College Street
  • When: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

John McCutcheon in Concert at Sundilla, March 23

  • What: A respected folk artist and songwriter, John McCutcheon has mastered a dozen instruments, including the rare hammer dulcimer. In addition to various honors, McCutcheon’s music has earned him seven Grammy nominations. He has also produced more than 20 albums of other artists. The concert will include free coffee, tea, water and food, and attendees are invited to bring their own food and beverages.

37th Annual Easter Egg Hunt, March 31

  • What: Celebrate Easter with more than 35,000 eggs hidden over a four-acre area in this massive annual Easter egg hunt! “Hunting grounds” will be divided by age group. Enjoy musical entertainment, free soda and balloons and pictures with the Easter bunny in addition to the egg hunt.
  • Where: Kiesel Park, 520 Chadwick Lane, Auburn
  • When: 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
