Ghouls, goblins and ghosts will abound this weekend into Tuesday, as the days surrounding and including Halloween gear up to celebrate the spooky holiday. Halloween weekend in Auburn and Opelika kicks off soon, and there is certainly no shortage of things to do around town! Trick-or-treating, costume contests and even a few non-Halloween events will offer Auburn and Opelika residents plenty of ways to stay occupied. Goulish Gala at the Auburn Public Library, Oct. 26
- What: Come costumed to the Auburn Public Library for a selection of Halloween activities. In addition to visiting the “haunted” wing of the library, enjoy carnival games, candy, music and a spooky photo booth.
- Where: Auburn Public Library, 749 E. Thach Ave., Auburn
- When: 5:30 to 7 p.m.
- Cost: Free
Fright Nights at the Arboretum, Oct. 27
- What: Bring blankets, chairs and picnic dinners and enjoy an outdoor screening of a classic monster movie this Friday, Oct. 27. This last night of the Fright Night series will feature the 1931 version of Dracula.
- Where: Donald E. Davis Arboretum, 181 Garden Drive, Auburn
- When: 6 to 10 p.m.
- Cost: Free
29th Annual Pumpkin Carve, Oct. 27
- What: Experience some of the most creative pumpkin carving around during this day-long event. Sponsored by the Auburn University Chapter of the American Institute of Architecture Students, carvers will gather in the courtyard of Dudley Hall and will work all day to carve extravagant pumpkins leading up to a pumpkin lighting at 6 p.m. that evening. Judges will select the best pumpkins and award prizes donated from local businesses.

- Cost: Free to attend. Silent auction, vendors and raffles will be included.
Great Pumpkin Splash, Oct. 27
- What: The Sportsplex pool will turn into a floating pumpkin patch as children ages 6-12 pick their pumpkins to decorate will a fall theme. Pre-registration for this event is required by Oct. 24.
- Where: Opelika Sportsplex and Aquatics Center
- When: 6 to 8 p.m.
- Cost: $4 per person
Auburn-Opelika Wine Trail, Oct. 27
- What: Trade in your costume for libations this Halloween weekend in Auburn and Opelika for an all-day wine tasting event! This first Auburn-Opelika Wine Trail will give attendees the opportunity to experience three wineries in East Alabama with a farm-to-table lunch provided by Acre. Guests will meet at the Lee County Fairgrounds at 8 a.m. and ride Tiger Transit buses along the trail route, which will stop at Five Points Farms in Five Points, Hodges Vineyards & Winery in Camp Hill and Whippoorwill Vineyards in Notasulga.

Outdoor Movie at the Opelika Sportsplex, Oct. 27
- What: Watch a Halloween classic under the stars on Friday, October 27 at the Opelika Sportsplex. The Sportsplex will be showing Hocus Pocus at the outdoor amphitheater. Indulge in free popcorn and watch out for a special appearance from the Sanderson Sisters!

Haunted Auburn Walking Tour, Oct. 27-28, Oct. 30-31
- What: Learn about Auburn’s haunted hot-spots on this walking tour narrated by local historians and regional researches with years of experience documenting paranormal activity in the Auburn area. Stops include the “spooky scoop” on Pine Hill Cemetery, Samford Hall and Auburn University Chapel. Appropriate for ages 12 and up. Early tours begin at 6 p.m. and last about 45 minutes. The later tour starts at 8 p.m. and last about an hour.

Sleepy Hollow Haunted Farm, Oct. 27-28 and 31
- What: A haunted maze, haunted hayride and haunted house make for a selection of Halloween fun this fall at Sleepy Hollow Haunted Farm. All attractions are age appropriate, and parental guidance is recommended for children under 13.
- Where: 929 Lee County Road 14
- When: 7:30 to 11 p.m.
- Cost: $13 per person per attraction; $30 for combination ticket of all three attractions
Pope’s Haunted Farm, Oct. 27-31
- What: Dare to be scared at Pope’s Haunted Farm this Halloween. Special events for 2017 include the Zombie Paintball Safari, Haunted Hayride: Taken, Haunted Barn: Escape and Haunted Forest: Paranormal Activity. Children 12 and younger must be supervised, age limits are up to parental consent. All events are designed to be scary.

- When: 7:30 to 11 p.m.
- Cost: $15 for one attraction (hayride, barn or forest), $25 for two attractions, $35 for three attractions, $20 for Zombie Paintball Safari, $50 for all four attractions.
Masquerade Ball Fundraiser, Oct. 28
- What: The Opelika Theatre Company will host its inaugural Masquerade Ball Fundraiser including dinner, dancing and a silent auction. Proceeds for the event will benefit Opelika Theatre Company, The Southside Center for the Arts and Expressions of a BraveHeart. Dress is Sunday attire to formal wear.

Halloween Costume Party at Red Clay, Oct. 28
- What: Dress up and celebrate Halloween with Red Clay Brewing Company and Krewe De Tigris in the taproom. There will be a costume contest with prizes awarded for best dressed.

John Emerald Costume Contest, Oct. 28
- What: John Emerald’s annual costume contest and dance party will give away cash prizes of up to $300 for best individual and group costume and $100 for the funniest costume. The event will also include food vendors and DJ Russ from 10,000HZ Records.

Halloween Hoops Bash, Oct. 28-29
- What: Auburn Wheelchair Basketball will face off against Shepherd and Lakeshore in a tournament-style event Saturday and Sunday with games starting at 9 a.m. The championship game will be 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 29. Children are invited to trick-or-treat following Saturday’s 6 p.m. game!

Strum & Strive Music Festival, Oct. 29

AHS and AJHS Spooktacular Concert, Oct. 30
- What: Join the Auburn High and Auburn Junior High jazz bands for a concert in the new Auburn High School courtyard. Costumes are encouraged!

Auburn Downtown Trick or Treat, Oct. 31
- What: The 17th annual Auburn Downtown Trick-or-Treat invites trick-or-treaters to visit downtown merchants for their Halloween goodies. The event will also feature Aubie the Tiger, the opportunity for children to explore a fire truck, face painting, DJ Ozz, creepy crawlies and critters from the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center and more. There will also be a costume contest with categories for Best Individual Costume (12 and younger), Best Group Costume, Best Pet Costume and Most Original Costume. Door-to-door trick or treating is also scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m.!
