July pushes summer into full swing with all the heat and humidity that accompanies the season, and many of us might be compelled to stay indoors with the comfort of our air-conditioned houses. Auburn Knights Reunion, July 7-8
- What: The Auburn Knights Orchestra is slated to return for their reunion of 2017, an annual event held by the Auburn Knights Alumni Association. The reunion will highlight the orchestra’s 87 years of music history, with the Friday concert playing tribute to the 30’s/40’s/50’s/60’s era band and the Saturday showing to feature music from the 70’s/80’s/90’s/2000’s era band. Food and cash bar services will be available in the Lakeview Room and Patio Bar, as will a complimentary parking lot shuttle.

Barks & Brews, July 8 & 22
- What: The Lee County Humane Society and the Red Clay Brewing Company join forces to give Auburn and Opelika residents the chance to have good, local beer, meet their future best friend, and provide a home for an animal in need! The adoption event lasts all summer, with dates in June, July, and August.

GNR No. 7 Roasting Nuts Finale, July 8
- What: The GNR Spring Series finale will be held at Chewacla State Park, hosted by Go Nuts Biking! Bikers are invited to race the state park’s trails with sensitive RFID chip technology for precise results timing. Racers are a T-shirt and prizes inside a goody-bag!

Anthropologist Speaks on Native American Sacred Stone Sites in Alabama, July 9
- What: The public is invited to hear Harry Holstein, professor of anthropology at Jacksonville State University, speak at a summer meeting of the Lee County Historical Society at Pioneer Park. Holstein will discuss the historical and cultural significance of stone walls found in Choccolocco Valley of Calhoun County.

A Memphis Revue with The Amy Black Band, July 13
- What: The Amy Black Band is back to give life to old classics recorded in Memphis and inspired new music. The concert is hosted by Sundilla and The Center for the Arts and Humanities and will be an outdoors event at Pebble Hill. Coffee, tea, water, and food will be offered for free, and attendees are permitted to bring their own refreshments. While seating will be offered, attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. Detailed information here.

The Velcro Pygmies at The Bottling Plant Event Center, July 14
- What: The Velcro Pygmies will play live in downtown Opelika, hosted by The Bottling Plant Event Center! Attendees must be 21 years or older. Ticket sales end the day before event.

Fit to Fight – Silent Auction and Celebration Walk, July 15
- What: A silent auction and Celebration Walk is being held by the HealthPlus Fitness Center in collaboration with the Robert and Marjorie Goodson Oncology Wellness Program and the services East Alabama Medical Center. The Fit to Fight event is set to raise money for the Wellness Program, which provides cancer patients with wellness and fitness programs before, during, and after treatment. Click here for details!

Alabama’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, July 21-23

Cheers on the Corner, July 28
- What: Downtown Auburn will hold the annual Cheers on the Corner hosted by the Downtown Auburn Merchant’s Association. Participants are can enjoy food and beverage samples from various vendors and shops. Many downtown stores will remain open during the event, and live entertainment will be stationed at the corner of Magnolia and South College.

Freeze Off Contest & Run Fun, July 29
- What: The Auburn Parks & Recreation Department is planning to raise funds for community projects with live music, frozen desserts, and child-friendly activities! Recruit your friends and family to participate in the Freeze Off competition: bring in a homemade frozen snack recipe and have the chance to win awards for Crowd Favorite, Best Presentation, Most Unique Flavor, or the Grand Prize! A Kids Fun Run will also be hosted for children eager for a run around the Town Creek pond for a prize.
