Living in the Auburn area, we are fortunate to have a community that supports and appreciates the arts in the form of annual events like the SummerNights Downtown Art Walk! This year’s Auburn SummerNights Downtown Art Walk, a festival featuring the work of local and regional artists, is scheduled to begin 6 p.m. through 10 p.m. on Friday, June 9. The art walk will take place in downtown Auburn, beginning with a starting line parade at Pebble Hill and ending at Toomer’s Corner, officially starting the art walk. Downtown will be closed for traffic as various art vendors set up shop along downtown College Street and businesses remain open well passed usual posted hours.
The parade will be a first-time occurrence for Auburn SummerNights, including local organizations and groups invited to express their creativity through costuming. The parade will begin at the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts and Humanities at Pebble Hill at 6 p.m. A pre-parade party is scheduled at 5 p.m., allowing participants to enjoy fun craft activities related to the parade.
Beyond a colorful parade and talented art vendors downtown, the Electric Rangers will be performing starting at 6:15 p.m. and throughout the art walk. The group is known for their energy, honkytonk music, and classical song covers. Children are more than welcome at Auburn SummerNights; a play area with arts and crafts will be set up to accommodate parents and children during the night. In addition, the event will host a honey culinary contest, in which entrants will compete with three honey-themed, local, culinary entries.
