Living in the Auburn and Opelika area, one of the community traits we are fortunate to have is a thriving culinary scene. From contemporary Southern cuisine to inherited favorites like Italian and Japanese fare, we’ve got all of our bases covered when it comes to eating out well. Though we all have our local go-to eateries where we are recurring guests, it’s always exciting when new restaurants pop up on the Auburn and Opelika’s restaurant landscape. Here are a few new restaurants in Auburn and Opelika that have come on board in the past six months!

La Cantina

  • What: Located in historic downtown Opelika, La Cantina offers a new twist on tacos, quesadillas, burritos and more. This non-traditional Tex-Mex venue allows you to order by the taco offering meat choices ranging from chicken to chorizo, lobster to ahi tuna and beyond. House made margaritas and traditional favorites are also on the menu.

  • When: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday; 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday

167°F Korean BBQ

 

  • What: All-you-can-eat Korean barbecue. Pay a flat fee for lunch or dinner and get your fill from the diverse menu selection of traditional and contemporary Korean dishes. The restaurant offers an interactive dining experience where you cook and prepare meats and vegetables right at your table, which has a built-in stove and cooking surface in the center. Food is shared family style.

Taco Mama

  • What: With a handful of locations across Alabama, Taco Mama opened up shop in Auburn earlier this spring. Described as an “ultra-casual taco bar,” Taco Mama prides itself on fresh food, a relaxed atmosphere and top-notch service. The menu features taco and burrito baskets, bowls, quesadillas, margaritas and more.

  • When: 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday

Fratelli’s Ristorante Italiano

  • What: Authentic Italian cuisine that covers all of the bases. The menu offers a variety of options for both lunch and dinner, including pastas chicken and veal-based entrees, pizza, paninis and more. For lunch, all entrees on the menu are available for just $7.95.
  • Where: 1445 S. College St., Auburn
  • When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers

  • What: Cooked-to-order steakburgers and freshly-churned frozen custard. The menu also features classic American favorites like hot dogs, patty melts and chicken sandwiches.

  • When: 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday

Brick and Sugar: Edible cookie dough, coffee, gourmet cookies, pastries, cake shots, fresh shakes and more. Location: The corner of North College Street and Magnolia Avenue in downtown Auburn.
