March 2017 Events in Auburn and Opelika

For many of us, the month of March is synonymous with the onset of spring. The spring season not only brings sprouting plants and blooming flowers, but the warmer weather also makes an ideal setting for weekend activities. March is always a busy time in the Auburn and Opelika area. In fact, there are so many March 2017 events in Auburn and Opelika that instead of our usual “Top 10” events, we had to make it a “Top 15!”

  • The Auburn Area Community Theatre Presents, “Cheaper by the Dozen,” March 3-11
    • What: Made up of youth actors both local to Auburn and hailing from surrounding areas, the Young Performers of the Auburn Area Community Theatre will tell the story of a high school girl and the trials and tribulations she faces as a member of a large family with an eccentric father who happens to be one of the pioneers of industrial efficiency.   • 30th Annual Kiwanis Azalea Sale, March 3-5
    • What: The Lee County Kiwanis Club hosts a plant sale to benefit the Boy Scouts, East Alabama Food Bank and more. In addition to azaleas, purchase ferns, roses, camellias, hydrangeas and more. Free delivery available for pre-orders of more than 10 plants within Lee County.

  • Fit as a Fiddle Senior Health Fair, March 4
    • What: A free event that specifically caters to the health needs and interests of the 50 and older age group, the fair will feature interactive booths, advice from doctors and fitness experts, prizes and more.

  • Boda Getta BBQ 2017, March 3-5
    • What: Professional barbecue teams from across the southeast compete for $12,500 in cash. Presented by the Auburn Rotary Club, the Boda Getta BBQ invites patrons to either compete or watch and enjoy live music, food and vendors.

  • Sammy Miller & The Congregation, March 9
    • What: Grammy-nominated drummer Sammy Miller and his ensemble, The Congregation, share the power of community through their “joyful jazz” music.

    • What: Dress in your best cocktail attire, hop in a limo and your driver will take you to a secret location. Using a code word to get in the door, inside you will enjoy cuisine from Acre, an open bar and live jazz music. Your ticket also includes tickets to the Broadway musical Pippin on April 10.

  • CAMP’s 5-Year Anniversary, March 11-12
    • What: The Central Alabama Mountain Pedalers celebrate the transformation of the Chewacla State Park landscape into rideable biking trails over the past five years. The two-day event will feature several activities including a Tuskegee to Chewacla ride that will cover both trail systems and the paved roads in between.
    • Where: Chewacla State Park, 124 Shell Toomer Parkway, Auburn
    • When: Group rides start at 10 a.m. March 11. Grill and social time starting at 4 p.m. March 11. Tuskegee to Chewacla ride at noon on March 12.

    • What: A market featuring quality, local handmade or grown products in downtown Auburn.

  • Spring Break Camp, March 13-15
    • What: The Kreher Preserve and Nature Center hosts its annual children’s Spring Break Camp, with a theme this year focusing on “Zombie Survival Training.” The camp is open to first through sixth graders.

    • When: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    • Cost: $120 for members and $130 for non-members for all three days

  • Finish on the 50: Auburn Running Festival, March 18
    • What: The first and only running event to start at Toomer’s Corner and end on the 50-yard line of Jordan-Hare Stadium. Event includes a half marathon, 10K, 5K and fun run.

    • When: 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.
    • Cost: $25-$90 regular registration (post marked by March 11) or $30-$100 day-of registration

  • Bark in the Park, March 25
    • What: An event celebrating responsible dog ownership that includes educational booths, local pet vendors, door prizes, dog-friendly activities and crafts and adoptable dogs.

  • Hands on Nutrition & Pop-Up Farmer’s Market, March 27
    • What: An event associated with Scale Back Alabama, Hands on Nutrition is designed to teach participants about nutrition, including growing their own produce and cooking with what they grow.

    • When: Pop-up farmer’s market from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Demonstrations from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

  • 12th Annual Mayor’s Jeans & Jackets Ball, March 30
    • What: An annual fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Lee County. Auburn Mayor Bill Ham and Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller will be present. Event also includes dinner, testimonials from those positively affected by the Boys and Girls Clubs and live music.
