Are you a fan of lights, laughs and live performances? Get a taste of theatrical talent while supporting local actors this March as the Auburn Area Community Theatre Presents Cheaper by the Dozen.
The Auburn Area Community Theatre’s production of Cheaper by the Dozen will premiere Friday, March 3 at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center on Drake Avenue. Made up of youth actors both local to Auburn and hailing from surrounding areas, the Young Performers of the Auburn Area Community Theatre will tell the story of a high school girl and the trials and tribulations she faces as a member of a large family with an eccentric father who happens to be one of the pioneers of industrial efficiency.
You may be familiar with the 2003 film starring Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt, but the original Cheaper by the Dozen screenplay dates back to 1950 and is based on the 1948 novel Cheaper by the Dozen by Frank B. Gilbreth, Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey.
Directed by Richard Trammell, the Auburn Area Community Theatre’s version of this comedy-drama is appropriate for audiences of all ages, which promises to deliver lots of laughs mixed in with relatable family situations.
The Auburn Area Community Theatre started in 2003 when about 40 theatre enthusiasts met to form a new community theatre group. The group’s first production was Curious Savage in February 2004. From then through spring 2016, the Auburn Area Community Theatre has put on 42 shows from 16 different directors.
Performances for Cheaper by the Dozen are March 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11 at 6:30 p.m., with Saturday matinees on March 4 and 11 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students, seniors and children. Tickets can be purchased at www.AuburnACT.org and at www.facebook.com/ACT.
