Where in Auburn to Enjoy a Thanksgiving Meal

Let’s face it. Some years we just aren’t in the mood to play holiday host—to slave all day over casseroles, cranberry sauce and carved turkey and to have to deal with the clean up afterward. There is no shame in deciding to take a year off from orchestrating your regular Thanksgiving gathering to give yourself some well-deserved time to sit back, relax and enjoy the holiday stress free. Still craving some turkey and gravy but don’t want to make it yourself? The simple solution is, let someone else cook for you! Thanksgiving does not have to be spent confined to your own kitchen. This year, try going out an experiencing what the Auburn-Opelika area has to offer in terms of Thanksgiving meals.

Here are a few places offering Thanksgiving-style meals on Nov. 24.

  • Thanksgiving Brunch Buffet at The Hotel at Auburn University: From 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., The Hotel at Auburn University will serve a traditional Thanksgiving feast in the main ballroom of the conference center. Food items include an array of turkey, ham, cornbread stuffing, fresh vegetables, an omelet station, waffle bar, shrimp and grits bar and desserts. Cost: $45 for adults, $19 for children. Children 5 and younger are free. Reservations required.
  • Thanksgiving Day Buffet at the Marriot: From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Marriot Auburn Opelika Hotel & Conference Center at Grand National will host a lunch buffet including oven roasted turkey with gravy, spiral cut ham with spiced apricot glaze, cornbread dressing, oven-roasted vegetables, casseroles, desserts and more. Cost: $24.95 for adults, $11.95 for children. Children 5 and younger are free. Seating times are 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Reservations required.
  • Thanksgiving Dinner at The Hotel at Auburn University: From 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., Arricia inside The Hotel at Auburn University will host a special three-course dinner. The dinner starts with butternut squash soup with crab and sugar snap peas, followed by a stuffing-breaded turkey leg with sweet potato mash and cranberry sauce. Dessert includes pumpkin cranberry cheesecake with cinnamon whipped cream and fresh blueberries. Cost: $35 per person. Reservations highly recommended.

Deciding to do Thanksgiving a new way could end up starting a new tradition for your family, or it could give you the incentive you needed to get excited about going back to being the host next year!
