- Decorative screens and lattice. Though they may not block out the other side entirely, a decorative screen or lattice piece can help section off space and create visual interest.
- A pergola-style roof can also add visual interest, privacy and even noise reduction while still maintaining an open feel. Use vines to fill in and add foliage.
- Water features. If excessive noise from either the surrounding roads or the people next door are your main issues, then the sound of running water could be a welcome replacement. Water features can range from tabletop models to costly, custom-constructed waterfalls or ponds.
