Local Dog Parks

If you are new to the area, or if you are a new dog owner, you might be scouting out the best local dog parks to take your four-legged family members for some outdoor exercise and enjoyment. Across the country, off-leash dog parks are proliferating, as popularity for venues that allow you to sit back, relax and watch your dog play and interact with other canines free of worry is rampant.

In Auburn, the city boasts two off-leash dog parks that allow residents to do just that—giving both you and your pups incentive to get outside and play.

Kiesel Park, located on Chadwick Lane off of Wire Road, not only houses Auburn’s largest dog park, but it is Auburn’s largest park in general.

The off-leash dog park area within Kiesel Park includes separate fenced-in venues for large dogs and small dogs so that you can work your puppy up to the big leagues, or keep your forever-small canine feeling comfortable. Most dogs end up finding friends in the larger of the fenced-in areas, which houses an entire field’s worth of space in which your dogs can expend all of their energy. Other amenities include a double-gated entrance, benches, dog waste bag dispenser, community toy bin and hose access.

In addition, the dog park at Kiesel features dog agility equipment and two nearby ponds for water-loving pets to play in.

Auburn’s second dog park, located at Town Creek Park off of South Gay Street, was completed in spring 2015.

At 200 by 50 feet, this designated dog park is smaller than the one at Kiesel Park. The green space features paved sidewalks leading up to the park’s double-gated entrance, benches, dog waste bag dispenser, and a pet water fountain with water bottle filler.

Bringing your pets to the dog park is not only a way for them to exercise and socialize with other fur-coated friends, but it also serves as a way for you to interact with other dog owners—and to show off that your dog is the best, of course.

While Auburn’s two designated dog parks are great for off-leash fun, the Auburn-Opelika area is home to a long list of parks that offer other recreational opportunities for man and man’s best friend alike.
