Ryan's Top Events This Week

As summer winds down in the Auburn-Opelika area, attention turns toward school supplies, schedules and extra-curricular activities rather than the pool and playtime. However, just because August is upon us, it doesn’t mean that summer fun should cease altogether. There’s plenty still going on in the Auburn-Opelika area for residents and families to enjoy. Take a look at Ryan’s top events this week to learn more about how you can stay entertained as we enter our late summer/early fall routines!

  • Roar on the Corner, Aug. 25: Auburn City Schools, the City of Auburn and Auburn Downtown Merchants will host a community-wide pep rally in downtown Auburn at 7 p.m. the night before the AHS Tigers take on the Opelika Bulldogs.
  • Tailgate for a Cause, Aug. 27: For $10 with proceeds benefitting the 12 Community & Cause non-profits, attendees will taste small bites from each tailgate team, listen to live music and enjoy Farmer Brown’s Petting Zoo, face painting, Kona Ice and more. Attendees will then vote on Taster’s Choice, with a roster of celebrity judges present. Event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ogletree Village.
  • 6th Annual Marie E. Wooten Memorial Run, Aug. 27: Participants will in memory of the late Dr. Marie W. Wooten, who was tragically struck by an automobile Nov. 5, 2010, while jogging in Auburn. Starting at 7:45 a.m., the 5K helps raise money for College of Sciences and Mathematics scholarships.
  • 7th Annual BlackOut Cancer Party, Aug. 27: Attendees are encouraged to “Dress up, dress down or just wear black,” at the annual BlackOut Cancer party at the Preserve Clubhouse. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society as guests enjoy food, entertainment and bid on prizes to help raise money.
  • OANow Bridal Extravaganza, Aug. 28: Shop a variety of bridal-themed vendors all under one roof this Sunday at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. The event opens with the “Style for the Aisle” fashion show at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
